Firm overview
Moxxie Ventures is a seed-stage venture fund founded by Katie Stanton. Katie’s path into the heart of the venture capital ecosystem started in finance at J.P. Morgan in the late 1990s. When looking for a new opportunity, she came across Yahoo! She joined to help build Yahoo! Finance, which became her entry point to Silicon Valley. Katie has worked in executive operating roles across Silicon Valley, including at Google, Twitter, and Color Genomics. She also worked in the Obama Administration, in both the White House and the U.S. Department of State.
Along the way, Katie started angel investing. She and other operators saw an opportunity to band together to formalize their angel investing, in order to fill the gap of operators supporting founders, and to capitalize underrepresented groups. Together, they formed #ANGELS, an investment collective of six executives and friends from Twitter. After a prolific few years of angel investing, writing over 40 angel checks personally, Katie decided to become a full-time investor, ultimately founding Moxxie Ventures to continue putting capital in the hands of women and underrepresented founders. In 2021, Alex Roetter, the former president of Kitty Hawk and senior vice president of engineering at Twitter, joined Katie as a full-time managing director and general partner. Alex has over 10 years of early-stage investing experience and brings extensive technical and strategic expertise to the Moxxie portfolio. In 2021, Moxxie also hired Iynna Halilou, a first-year MBA student at Wharton, to join the team.
Firm strategy
Moxxie Ventures focuses on backing founders that look to make life and work better. Moxxie is currently investing out of their second $85M fund, focusing on seed-stage investments in climate, health tech, and the future of work, among other sectors. Moxxie currently invests $500K to $2M, targeting 10% ownership in the companies they back.
Alex and Katie support their founders by bringing a wealth of operating experience and expertise across product, engineering, marketing, and business development to the table, as well as the all-star network of investors, founders, and operators they’ve been able to build while being at the heart of the venture ecosystem.
Why we invested
Katie is not only an amazing individual but also a dear friend: We have known Katie since the early days when she invested in Carta. Since then, she has been a vocal supporter, and has always been eager to be an early tester for our new products. We have worked very closely with Katie over the years, since Moxxie and Carta share the mission of closing the gender equity gap.
Equity is the largest lever for wealth creation in Silicon Valley and beyond; we believe it should be distributed equitably. We’ve had the honor of having Katie speak at our Table Stakes 2020 event, where she interviewed Andre Iguodala. Katie has been a super connector in introducing us to many amazing managers and founders in her network. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Katie.
