The Artemis Fund is a Houston-based seed stage venture fund investing in mission-driven female entrepreneurs across the United States.

Firm overview

The Artemis Fund is a Houston-based seed stage venture fund investing in mission-driven women entrepreneurs across the U.S. The fund was founded and is managed by an all-female GP team—Stephanie Campbell, Leslie Goldman, and Diana Murakhovskaya—with decades of experience advising and investing in early-stage companies, founding and building businesses, serving in executive roles at Fortune 500 companies and on Wall Street, and acting as lobbyists in DC. The Artemis team is demonstrating that sourcing and supporting overlooked founders leads to outsized returns.

Firm strategy

The Artemis Fund invests in revenue-generating seed-stage companies that help people build wealth, and care for their families and communities more sustainably. The fund specializes in fintech, caretech, and consumer tech, seeking technologies that increase financial opportunity, help parents return to work, and create sustainable products. As lead investors, the fund’s GPs have developed a repeatable process that includes activating their extensive network of co-investors to fill out rounds and reduce future financing risk. Attracted by a reputation for leading rounds and working tirelessly on behalf of its founders, the startup community seeks out The Artemis Fund to both act as lead investor in highly competitive rounds and join the cap table for highly competitive bridge rounds.

Why we invested

We’re firm believers that venture needs to evolve to become a more diverse investor as an asset class. Moreover, one of the things that we look for in employees, fund managers, and founders alike is the quality of living your mission. We were first introduced to Artemis through shared events and speaking opportunities, and quickly grew the relationship as both their fund administrator and the equity administrator for their portfolio companies. It was obvious to us from our first meeting that Stephanie, Leslie, and Diana live their mission to the fullest extent. The passion with which they spoke about their experience and gender inequality in venture at scale was incredibly compelling, and the three of them bring an impressive mix of investing and portfolio support experience to the table. We believe they’ll be able to accelerate their mission with a larger fund and more weight to lead deals themselves.
