Transcript
This is portfolio valuations, part of Carta's ERP for private capital. Valuation teams build comps from scratch, run waterfall manually, and reconcile fund accounting by hand every time. Carta changes that. Select the portfolio company, and you can start a new valuation, copy from an existing one, or roll forward from a previous period.
Carta pulls the live cap table as of the valuation date, or you can model a round or pro form a scenario. Financials submitted through Carta's data collection can be imported directly into the valuation with one click. Comparable companies are loaded with live market data. You can add comps by searching tickers or by sector.
Select and weight your valuation methods. Backsolve, Post Money, Guideline Public Companies, M and A, and DCF are all available. Adjust the weightings and your company value updates in real time. Set exit horizon and volatility.
Carta calculates chaff infinity for you. Document what drove the valuation: changes to comps, financials, or methodology. Waterfall, OPM, and common stock equivalent are all supported allocation methods. The breakpoint summary shows how enterprise value flows through the cap structure, including liquidation preference tiers, conversion points, and option strikes.
You can also apply discounts after the waterfall. Valuation results can be downloaded as PDF or Excel. For fund admin customers, posting to the SOI is a single step. The confirmation modal shows exactly how the valuation lands in fund accounting.
Once posted, the SOI and GL update automatically. On the Carta homepage, you can see the valuation impact flows through the fund entity structure, with the nav impact visible at every level. You can also isolate the view to just the new valuation.
