Carta now supports sub-accounts within any master COA entry, giving fund-level granularity for transactions and reporting.

What it is

You can now organize transactions within any master Chart of Accounts category into sub-accounts. For example, Computers and Monitors can be tracked as sub accounts under Office Supplies. Once enabled, the trial balance automatically surfaces balance breakdowns at the sub-account level alongside master account totals.

Why it matters

Fund CFOs and operations teams need finer expense detail for tax reporting and internal analysis, especially for complex entities. You can now track that directly in Carta, while keeping full visibility into your top-level COA categories.

How it works

Sub-accounts are enabled at the fund level by Carta and shared across all your entities, giving you consistent detail across your firm. Once enabled, your team and Carta staff can book journal entries to them in Carta. Sub-accounts inherit the parent account's automation rules, so the added granularity doesn't create additional overhead.
