So here's the thing about AI. Once you understand how AI works and what it's good at, the way you work fundamentally changes. Let me explain why. If you go back fifty years when we figured out transistors and silicon and started building computers, what we actually built was an arithmetic chip.

It could add and subtract. It could store and retrieve, but that's all it could do. But out of those four simple functions, we got everything else. Spreadsheets, videos, satellites, self driving cars, and even the iPhone in your pocket.

So here's the analogy I want you to hold on to. What everyone is calling AI is really just a new chip, and that chip is called a transformer. The old chip took two plus two and gave you four. This chip takes the dog and hands you back ran.

Words in, words out. Here's the part people got wrong. It isn't looking anything up. Every single word coming back at you is just a prediction from the previous words.

So if you hand it a weak question, you get back a weak answer, dressed up to sound confident. A calculator does math, but a word calculator does something else entirely, which is reasoning and synthesis and communication. But a chip on its own is useless. We needed an operating system, and that's all Claude really is.

It's the thing knows how to drive the transformer chip. The industry calls it a harness. Claude's is Anthropix, Codex is OpenAI's, and Cursor is another one. It's the same chip underneath, the transformer.

These are just different operating systems on top. Which brings me to the question I really care about. If Claude is the operating system, then what are the applications? Nobody ever bought just the operating system.

You bought Microsoft and Excel and PowerPoint, and you installed them on top, And that's where all the value was. So what are the applications for Claude? It's a trick question. There aren't any yet, and that's exactly why this thing feels so frustrating right now.

Our whole thesis is that the world moves on to Claude as the operating system and that software companies start shipping real applications into it. We're building ours right now, and across this series, we're gonna hand them to you. But it all starts here with knowing what kind of chip you're holding and not asking it to be something it isn't. Next, Nicole and Alex will give you the key terms like agent and plug in and skill that you actually need to put this to work.
