LinkedIn: Which Industries Get the Most 100 Million Dollar Venture Rounds

Industry breakdown - which sectors get the most $100 million venture rounds?

Good old SaaS leads the pack by a considerable distance (of course about a third of Carta's dataset are SaaS companies, so this is not unexpected). We'll also look at how much each industry "overperformed" by comparing total round percentage to mega-round percentage.

Here's the leaderboard:

1. SaaS: 320 rounds over $100m since 2019. 33% of all rounds, 34% of $100m+

2. Biotech: 119 mega-rounds. 7% of all rounds, 13% of mega-rounds 🟢

3. Fintech: 112 mega-rounds. 12% of all, 11% of mega

4. Healthtech: 108 mega-rounds. 10% of all, 12% of mega

5. Consumer: 105 mega-rounds. 14% of all, 11% of mega 🔴

Of course a smattering of all industries receive a few $100m+ fundraises - but the vast majority go to these 5 sectors. And in Q4 of last year, 100% of the 15 $100m+ rounds went to the big 5.

Likely that as this pullback continues, VCs become even more hesitant to deploy major cash to newer industries. Congrats to all the SaaS founders out there.
