LinkedIn: Health Startups on Carta Fared Not Too Shabby in 2022

In honor of the JPM Healthcare conference live in SF this week: how did health-related startups on Carta fare in 2022?

Amidst the general gloom - not too shabby.

When comparing 2022 to 2021, median pre-money valuations rose at the seed stage across healthtech, biotech, and medical devices. Of course the aperture matters greatly here (valuations in the second half of 2022 were lower than those in H1).

Once those seedlings grow into Series C companies, however, the picture lost some luster. Biotech and medical device valuations in particular suffered steep declines from 2021 peaks.

Health-related startups did not escape the general downturn in valuations, but were on the whole less affected than some other industries like fintech and consumer.

Enjoy the conference, here's to more healthtech in 2023 🏥
