More 2022 in review - where do different startup industries take root across the US?

Obviously, Silicon Valley is dominant in many of the traditional software disciplines. SaaS, fintech, AI - all of these are led by startups and investors from the Bay Area.

Consumer is also California-centric, though LA plays a much bigger role here than in enterprise SaaS.

But the business of new drugs is quite different. MA saw nearly 30% of all invested capital into pharma startups in 2022, according to our Carta data.

North Carolina also plays well in this space (due to the Research Triangle universities, by and large).
