LinkedIn: Startup Valuation Whiplash Has Been Different by Stage

Valuation whiplash since before the pandemic.

Each part of the venture ecosystem experienced the past 2+ years differently.

The median Series D valuation skyrocketed (up 300% in Q3 of 2021 from Q1 2020). So naturally once valuations turned, these late-stage companies had much further to fall.

Seed, by contrast, saw "plodding" growth across the quarters.

Objectively, every stage is still charting above the pre-money valuation medians of Q1 2020 - in some cases, healthily so!

But the pace of change is as important as final figures. This helps explain why now is a wonderful time to start a new company - you are not dealing with the unwieldy expectations from the boom times.
