The key insight this week
Here at Carta, we serve startups—35,000 of them, in fact. Collectively, these businesses employ nearly a million people. And that's not to mention the thousands of venture funds who use Carta as their fund administrator, especially emerging fund managers.
For a lot of those companies and funds, it was quite a weekend.
If you're a regular reader of this newsletter, you're probably aware of the collapse of one of the startup sector's biggest business partners: Silicon Valley Bank.
Perhaps you're a founder who was scrambling to ensure payroll went through. Maybe you're a fund manager who quickly arranged credit lines for your portfolio companies. Or maybe you're an employee who wondered if your company was going to look quite the same come Monday.
Of course, there are still a hundred questions left to answer—some of which we'll dig into here in the Data Minute once the data becomes available. But for now, kudos to everyone in the ecosystem who spent Saturday and Sunday working urgently to support others.
On a personal note, it's been heartening to see the level of care my Carta colleagues showed for founders and fund managers who needed assistance over the past week. I'm grateful to be working with such a dedicated and talented team.
