LinkedIn: Carta CEO Testifies Before Congress on Startup Policy

Not every day your CEO testifies in front of Congress on behalf of startups everywhere.

When I joined Carta, we spoke about creating more owners. Turns out, policy plays a major role in who gets access to and benefits from the startup ecosystem. If you care about the innovation startups provide, you're forced to care about the regulatory framework in which they operate.

Prime example: capital has become more mobile, but proximity still matters.

For the earliest stages, investors tend to fund companies in their region: the average distance between the lead investor and portfolio company headquarters is less than 100 miles.

How can we build policy to encourage a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible startup world?

Feeling proud to work for a place that takes on these responsibilities in addition to building a great business. Carta exists for startups, so it's right we should champion them in Congress as well.

Shoutout to Anthony Cimino, Holli Heiles Pandol. Lauren O'Mahony. Tania Zaparaniuk 🇺🇦 , and Jessica Capibaribe for being the power behind the scenes on this one!

Full list of Carta policy priorities linked in the first comment below, in case you're up for some light reading 😁

And if there are current policies around startups that you think need adjusting, would love to hear them!
