LinkedIn: Building an Insights Function Generates Speaking Opportunities

Side benefit of building an insights function at your startup - it can be an engine for attracting speaking opportunities.

So far in 2024, the Carta insights team has spoken 121 times at various events, both in-person and over Zoom.

About 40 of those events have been Carta created - things like our data virtual events, the Data Minute podcast episodes, or LinkedIn Lives diving into fun startup topics.

But 81 have been external invitations. Big stuff like keynotes at StartupFest or SaaSOpen. Small things like a hour-long Zoom session on co-founder equity splits with Techstars cohorts. And of course, many podcasts (just this week we broke down startup hiring in 2024 with the awesome team at the HR Heretics podcast).

So why does this matter?

Because a speaking strategy is usually very costly and challenging to create. You have to convince conference host, podcasters, or partner groups that you're worth having on. And once you get into conversations, it can be a huge effort to build talks that resonate with your goals and the needs of the audiences.

If you're building insights from your own data, however - it's clear what you'll talk about! And the value to the audience is proven every day in social media, newsletter traffic, etc.

Instead of spending time pitching for the opportunity to speak, product consistent insightful content and watch the invitations roll in.

Build data once, use it everywhere 🙏
