LinkedIn: Seed Round Valuations and Cash by County in Q1 2023

Raising a seed round this weekend? Here's what you should expect for valuation and cash by county according to Carta data.

Congrats to the founders raising in Middlesex MA - the median pre-money valuation in Q1 was just under $20M in that county.

Stick to it, founders raising in Fulton, GA - the median pre-money here was $8.4M in Q1.

Obviously there are specific counties with much stronger seed ecosystems (namely SF, LA, NYC, and the Bay Area generally). But heartening to see that valuations for seed-stage companies are holding up decently in counties across the US.

Keep an eye as well on the cash raised column. That is more dependent on industry distribution (biotech, for instance, lives in MA and often requires more cash upfront) but illustrative of the differences in this broad category of "seed rounds".

Location is clearly a major factor in seed-stage fundraising but not the only one. Digging deeply into the differences between AI companies and other companies right now, future research graphics forthcoming.
