LinkedIn: Are We Past the Worst of Startup Layoffs

Monday optimism: are we past the worst for startup layoffs?

Across all 36,000+ startups on Carta, layoffs have trended down for 4 months straight. Jan 2023 was the worst month we've seen, but the rest of the year has gotten progressively better.

Of course we are still at quite elevated levels compared with the low ebb of 2021.

Best guess: we'll settle out in the summer somewhere around 6,000 involuntary departures per month and then we'll see what happens as we hit Q4. This stat is so intimately tied into fundraising and general VC activity that it's hard to predict with any degree of certainty.

Thrilled about today's trend at least!
