Three Years at Carta and What I've Learned About Insights

It's my 3-year anniversary at Carta and it's been an absolute blast.

Had a few lessons from the past 3 years stick out, so indulge me the non-graph post 😁

1: The best stuff takes longer than you think.

Basically everything that's worked for the Insights team here has had a ramp up period where I was convinced it was a flop. Social posts that nobody reads, full reports that gather online dust, etc. Just keep building things.

2: Pay attention to your energy.

No one likes every moment at work - there's always minutiae that clogs up the calendar. But if you go a few months without feeling any buzz or excitement, it's worth doing an audit of your day to day. Important to have a few things that spark joy.

3: The best metric for content is cycle time.

Everyone tracks impressions, leads, outcomes. But more people should be focused on reducing the time it takes to create 1 piece of content. If you build something in 15 minutes that used to take you an hour, you get 3 more chances to hit it big.
