Carta's first look at Q4 and full-year 2023 private markets data shows early-stage valuations recovering and late-stage rounds bouncing back.

It's short. It's sweet. It's new data from Q4 which ended only 4 days ago.

Out fresh this morning, we have our first look into data on valuations and round sizes.

Caveat: it can take a few weeks for rounds to be recorded on our platform, so we can't produce a final analysis until we get full data in a few weeks.

(So yes - I know this data doesn't have the number of rounds or the total capital invested. I want those metrics too! They'll be published in the final analysis).

At first blush, it looks like valuations in early-stage venture continued trudging back upwards, while late-stage (Series D and beyond) bounced higher as well.

Round sizes plateaued or gently declined in seed and Series A but rose in Series B.
