A smattering of highlights:
Startups on Carta hired about half as many new employees in 2023 as they did in 2022 (523K → 268K).
23% of all employees hired in 2022 did not make it to their 1-year work anniversaries. That's much higher than the 13% share that left under 1 year in the 2018 hire class.
Salaries nudged upwards from Sept 2023 to Jan 2024 but have stayed relatively flat since the end of 2022.
Equity packages stopped falling (finally) but have yet to turn upwards.
2023 was a rather grim year for startup comp - here's hoping for a U-turn in 2024.
