Heads up founders - VCs are open for business in the summer.
Prevailing wisdom holds that venture capital in the US effectively takes the summer off to tan and recuperate, probably on the beaches of Saint-Tropez or another exclusive locale.
But the data says otherwise!
Both June and August are pretty solid months for completed deals (data is for priced rounds on Carta over the past 5 years or so). July…well ya. Maybe skip July.
Of course this just shows the month in which the deal was actually signed. The fundraising process precedes the signature date by a number of weeks.
All that said, trying to "time" the fundraising process is probably a losing battle. There are so many factors that dictate whether a VC will say yes to your startup - time of year is not a major one.
(Except January. Take January off).
