Today, Carta released Cap Table 101—a first-of-its-kind free video series designed to help early-stage founders master the intricacies of building and managing capitalization (cap) tables.
“Too many founders are learning the ins and outs of cap tables on the fly, and yet it’s one of the most important parts of company-building,” said Vrushali Paunikar, chief product officer at Carta. “We want to help founders get it right early so they can spend more time focused on actually building their companies.”
Cap Table 101 is a follow up to Carta’s widely shared Equity 101, released last Spring. Equity 101 has since been viewed by nearly a quarter of a million people, and continues to be shared widely in the venture community.
The Cap Table 101 series will help founders understand how a cap table works, how to build their first cap table (and why it’s so important to get it right), and how to use their cap table to manage funding rounds. The series was developed in part by seasoned start-up and equity attorneys, and will cover the following and more:
-
Creating your first cap table
-
Types of ownership tracked in cap tables
-
Option pool dilution, and converting SAFEs
“These videos are honestly great,” said Darius Bounds, CEO & founder of Joolep. “High quality, clear and to the point, and no fluff in between. The graphics are extremely helpful as well. I wish I had these earlier on. Funny enough, they made me want to crack down on my cap table!”
Cap Table 101 is the first of multiple video series from Carta with practical guidance specifically for founders and investors. In Spring 2023, Carta will release a series for investors about building VC funds.
“The world of cap table management before Carta was chaotic, expensive, and extremely challenging,” said Brian Freeman, founder and CEO of Creatorland. “ However, Carta’s innovative approach to cap table management and visualization has been truly revolutionary. Cap Table 101 would have been a game-changer when I was struggling to navigate my cap table in the beginning.”
